The state-of-the-art Sepang circuit, close to Kuala Lumpur International Airport, is the only venue to have hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix. The track offers a number of genuine overtaking opportunities and demands a high-downforce configuration. The circuit also has the largest grandstand in Formula One, with a capacity of 30,000. It is sited between the two main straights, which are joined by a hairpin at one end of the grandstand. A lap of the Sepang circuit, described by Alexander Wurz, runs as follows: Powering up the gears along the start-finish straight at Sepang, you reach a speed of 190mph in seventh gear before braking hard for the tight right-left-right complex at the end of the straight. With a downhill gradient, you negotiate the sequence at some 53mph in second, the width of the track provides excellent overtaking opportunities at this point. Pushing hard on the throttle, you accelerate through the long sweeping right-hander of turn three that leads you onto a short straight. A burst on the throttle sees you reach some 155mph in sixth gear before braking sharply, dropping down to 64mph in second for the tight right-hander of turn four. Exiting the corner, you push hard on the throttle again on the approach to the flowing left of turn 5, which you take at 160mph in fourth gear, before dabbing the brakes for the slightly tighter right hand of turn six. This corner is negotiated at 109mph still in fourth. A short burst on the throttle sees you reach 152mph in fourth gear before slowing slightly for the two right-handers of turns seven and eight, with your speed dropping to 120mph in fourth. Another short straight follows and you will reach 167mph in sixth gear as you brake dramatically to enter the complex at the back of the circuit. Turn nine, a tight left-hander, is negotiated in second gear at 50mph, then briefly on the throttle you build and maintain your speed through the long, slight right-hander of turn ten, reaching some 131mph in fourth gear. Braking hard, you take the 90-degree right hand turn eleven at 77mph. Again you push hard on the throttle for a short amount of time along the straight that leads to turn twelve. Having kept your speed through the corner, you then dab the brakes, dropping to 110mph in third for the slower right hand of turn thirteen. Going down a gear to negotiate the sharp right of turn fourteen, you then swing round almost 180-degrees onto the straight that runs parallel to the start-finish straight, separated by the massive grandstand. Along here you will reach 181mph in seventh before braking sharply to negotiate the hairpin of turn fifteen, at 66mph in second, which flips you back onto the start-finish straight to begin another lap.
